Ankle sprain to sideline Bulls' Gibson upwards of 2 weeks

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The hits keep on coming to the Chicago Bulls

Already without stars Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler into potentially April, oft-injured power forward Taj Gibson will be keeping them company on the sidelines.

Gibson is set to miss at least the next week, and upwards of two, with a left ankle sprain, reports K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune. The 29-year-old, who missed the Bulls' last contest, remains in a walking boot as he recovers from yet another left ankle injury.

Since 2012, Gibson has sprained the ankle at least four times, forcing him to miss a chunk of games as well as the USA Basketball Select camp.

The Bulls will attempt to hang on to their slim lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Central Division without three of their most important players. Rose is hopeful of playing again this season after undergoing a third knee operation, but he remains out indefinitely, while Butler is expected to miss the next three-to-six weeks with an elbow sprain.

Gibson, the runner up for Sixth Man of the Year a season ago, has been his usually dependable self off the bench, averaging 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 49 games.
