VIDEO: Kevin Garnett gets up in Austin Rivers' face

Kevin Garnett didn't show Austin Rivers the same love he showed his father.

The two players – separated in age by 16 years – got into a war of words late in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Clippers' 110-105 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.

Rivers thought it was a good idea to give Garnett a little tap from behind after a whistle. And Garnett, of course, didn't take too kindly to it.

Rivers was apparently upset about previous incidents earlier in the game when Garnett caught him with an elbow and also winded him.

"He elbowed me in my head, and that's not going to fly, really," Rivers told reporters. "I have all the respect in the world for him. He's one of the best players to ever play the game, but at the end of the day, I'm a man just like he is, and that's all there is to it."

He at least conceded to instigating the spat that led to double technical fouls.

"I was walking to my bench, and he was in my way, and I wasn't moving," Rivers said.

Rivers' dad and Clippers head coach Doc Rivers – who coached Garnett for six seasons with the Boston Celtics – seemed to enjoy the exchange.

"I thought Austin should have punched him, personally," Rivers said with a smile after the game.

Garnett scored 12 points – his highest output in four games since joining the Timberwolves – on 6-of-10 shooting with three rebounds in the loss. Rivers countered with 13 points in 25 minutes off the bench.
