Wesley Matthews declines X-ray on hand: 'It's fine'

Craig Mitchelldyer-USA TODAY Sports

If it wasn't enough to take him out of the game, it's not worth sweating.

That seems to be the attitude of Wesley Matthews when it comes to a left hand injury suffered against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday.

"It's fine," Matthews said after the game, telling reporters he would not undergo an X-ray.

Matthews could be seen holding his hand late in the fourth quarter, favoring it for a handful of plays.

Likely unrelated to the injury, Matthews mistakenly fouled Russell Westbrook in the act of shooting late in the close game, getting bailed out when Westbrook missed the first of three free throws that could have tied the game.

The Portland Trail Blazers wing labored throughout the game, shooting 2-of-13 from the floor, continuing a poor stretch that's seen him shoot 39.3 percent since Jan. 14 and 36.2 percent over his last four games. He's averaging 16.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists on the season, shooting 44.8 percent overall and 39.2 percent on threes.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Matthews play through a minor injury given the precedent set by some Portland teammates this season. LaMarcus Aldridge has been playing through a thumb injury since January and Nicolas Batum has been dealing with a bad wrist for most of the season.
