Calderon out for Knicks, MRI scheduled on Achilles
Not surprisingly, Jose Calderon will not play for the New York Knicks on Friday night against the Detroit Pistons.
Calderon left Wednesday's game against the Boston Celtics after tweaking his left Achilles, which he said has been bothering him for some time. He'll undergo an MRI on Saturday.
The Spanish point guard has been wearing a walking boot since the injury on Wednesday, and on Thursday he told the New York Post he doesn't want to shut down his season in the manner teammate Carmelo Anthony did.
The 34-year-old likely would have been a prime candidate to be moved at the trade deadline if not for his contract, widely considered restrictive, with another year and $7.7 million left on it.
Calderon is averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 assists in just over 30 minutes a game this season.
