Paul Pierce out Wednesday with bruised knee

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Paul Pierce will not be in the Washington Wizards' lineup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday due to a bruised right knee, the team announced.

Pierce banged knees with Draymond Green during Tuesday's loss to the Golden State Warriors, and though he was originally expected to play, the Wizards announced his absence about 40 minutes before Wednesday's game.

The contest was supposed to pit Pierce against ex-teammate Kevin Garnett in KG's Minnesota return. Pierce and Garnett spent seven seasons together with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets from 2007-2014.

Pierce is averaging 12.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in just under 27 minutes per game in his first season in D.C.
