Report: Pistons sign John Lucas III for remainder of season

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

With the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, the Detroit Pistons are looking to solidify the last few spots on their roster.

After claiming Shawne Williams off waivers on Tuesday, the Pistons have now signed John Lucas III for the remainder of the season, according to a report from Marc Stein of ESPN. Lucas III had been playing on a pair of 10-day contracts after beginning his season in China.

In eight games with Detroit, Lucas III is averaging five points and 3.3 assists in 12.3 minutes, providing some depth at the one behind Reggie Jackson alongside Spencer Dinwiddie. With Brandon Jennings out for the season due to an Achilles tear, the Pistons nabbed the veteran James to stem the bleeding, later acquiring Jackson – and sending out D.J. Augustin – at the trade deadline.

The 32-year-old Lucas III has appeared in 224 games over seven NBA seasons with five different teams, never lasting more than 63 games with a single club.
