Jazz sign Bryce Cotton, Jack Cooley to 10-day deals

The Utah Jazz filled out their roster and shored up their depth with a pair of D-League call-ups on Tuesday.

The Jazz announced that they've signed Bryce Cotton and Jack Cooley to 10-day contracts. With a busy schedule over the next two weeks and a thinned-out roster following the trade deadline, the signings give the Jazz additional warm bodies and a close look at some well-performing young players.

The Cooley signing had been expected with the Jazz suddenly thin in the frontcourt. The Notre Dame product was with the Jazz during the preseason and was having a strong D-League campaign, averaging 15.5 points and 10.6 rebounds while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor. A 6-foot-9 power forward, Cooley could see time as the de facto backup center without another such option on the roster.

Cotton is the more intriguing signing given his prolific scoring ways at Providence. Undrafted in June, Cotton had averaged 20.8 points over his final two college seasons, hitting 36.5 percent on his 3-point attempts and seeing his assist numbers spike to 5.8 per game as a senior.

In 34 D-League games this season, Cotton was averaging 22.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists, while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 45.2 percent from long range. He could see time behind Dante Exum and Trey Burke at the point or slide to the two as an off-ball weapon.
