NBA All-Star Game Odds: Curry the MVP favorite, East heavy underdogs

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The red-hot shooting of Steph Curry not only earned him his first Three-Point Shootout victory in four tries, it's also made him the favorite to walk out of Sunday's NBA All-Star Game with the Most Valuable Player award.

Curry headlines this year's All-Star MVP candidates with 4-1 odds, narrowly ahead of LeBron James. It helps Curry's case for MVP that oddsmakers see the Western Conference as very likely to win, with the -170 money line implying the West will win nearly two-thirds of the time. The over-under of 301 predicts a high-scoring affair, with 301 points representing the second-highest game total since 2000.

While the West's overall dominance has been pronounced enough that the current playoff format is a hot-button issue for commissioner Adam Silver, that dominance hasn't consistently carried over to the All-Star Game. The East snapped a three-year West winning streak a season ago and has won five of the last 10 games overall. The West is also digging deep for roster players, having lost three would-be All-Stars to injury, while the East has lost just one.

Oddsmakers don't have Curry as the game's likely high scorer, instead giving that nod to Kevin Durant and James. The over-under for highest point total is at 33.5, just shy of the total James needs to hit to become the all-time leading scorer in All-Star Game history (33).
