Carmelo Anthony: (Knee) 'Very Likely' To Have Surgery After All-Star Break

Anthony (knee) said "it's very likely" that he'll undergo surgery after the All-Star break and be shut down for the rest of the season, Newsday reports.

Analysis:

Anthony has been battling knee issues for most of the season, but he hasn't been shy in expressing his desire to play in the All-Star Game on Sunday in New York. With the Knicks well out of contention in the lowly East, Anthony has little incentive to play through pain in the second half, especially considering the risk it could pose in terms of long-term damage. "Now I got to start thinking about the future," Anthony said. "This season is this season. So I really want to just sit down with my team, and sit down with the proper people to just kind of plan this thing out and just see exactly what I have to do to get done and just to fix it." The Knicks have not revealed the exact nature of Anthony's injury, but the forward clarified that it's a tendon issue. If he undergoes surgery, as expected, he'll be sidelined for roughly two months. While that timetable would keep him out for the rest of the 2014-15 campaign, he would be ready well before the start of the 2015-16 season.
