Pistons sign John Lucas III to 10-day contract

He won't fill the void left by Brandon Jennings, lost to a season-ending Achilles injury, but John Lucas III is a point guard with a few NBA tours of duty under his belt, and the Detroit Pistons are more beggars than choosers right now.

The Pistons have officially signed Lucas to a 10-day contract, they announced Sunday, adding a steady hand - for the interim, at least - to a point guard rotation that's been relying on rookie second-rounder Spencer Dinwiddie to carry full-time backup duties.

The 32-year-old Lucas last played with the Utah Jazz, appearing in 42 games in 2013-14 and averaging 3.8 points on 32.6 percent shooting.

In parts of six NBA seasons with four teams, Lucas has averaged 4.8 points and 1.4 assists, shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from 3-point range.
