John Wall calls Monday status iffy due to ankle and illness

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

John Wall did his damndest to gut his way through Saturday's overtime game and pull his Washington Wizards to a victory.

It didn't work out that way, with the Wizards ultimately losing to the Toronto Raptors, and Wall is now paying the price for having tried to fight through it. Wall was already playing through soreness in his Achilles and ankle, and those issues plus a cold all had him feeling worse for wear after the game.

As a result of all that medical red-tape, Wall is unsure if he'll be able to play on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets.

It may make sense for Wall to take a game off ahead of a Wednesday-Thursday travel back-to-back, and just keeping an 82-game outlook in mind. He's yet to sit out a game this season, is averaging 36 minutes and played 45 on Saturday.

The issue for the Wizards is that they're 15 points per-100 possessions worse when he hits the bench, and they have no means of replacing his 1.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and league-high 10.1 assists.
