Wiggins' career night can't keep Cavs from winning 10th straight

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Don't let the end result confuse this fact: Andrew Wiggins went toe-to-toe with the King on Saturday night.

The Minnesota Timberwolves rookie scored a career-high 33 points against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, engaging with James on both ends of the floor quite often. Wiggins shot 14-of-25 and added four steals, trying his best to go blow for blow with the four-time MVP.

While most of the pre-game attention was on Kevin Love's return to Minnesota, one that saw him greeted with boos, perhaps the lens should have been centered on the return for Love. Wiggins was the key piece of the package that landed Love alongside James in Ohio, and the recent returns suggest this was quite the win-win.

Love was active with 14 points and 17 rebounds in the 106-90 victory, the 10th in a row for a Cavs team that has quickly turned from tumultuous to terrifying at 29-20. The loss is probably best for the league-worst Wolves, too, helping them secure a higher lottery pick to pair alongside Wiggins and company this summer.

And there's plenty for Minnesota fans to walk away excited about from Saturday's game. Even if James did outplay Wiggins with a sore wrist - expecting anything else from the 19-year-old would have been absurd - with 36 points, six rebounds and five assists, Wiggins continues to look better and better as the season rolls along. The Rookie of the Year award is all but locked up, and he now likely has the respect of the league's best player.
