Mavericks' Chandler Parsons out with illness

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

An illness will prevent Dallas Mavericks sharpshooter Chandler Parsons from suiting up for Friday's contest against the Miami Heat

Parsons, who's set to miss his second game this season, scored 21 points in 36 minutes in a loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The loss was the Mavericks' season-high fourth consecutive.

With Dwyane Wade sidelined, the Mavericks should have a strong chance to get back on track even without Parsons, who's averaging a team-best 2.1 3-pointers on 37.4 percent shooting from long range. Dallas enters the game with a Western Conference-best 16 road wins.

Parsons - in his first season with the Mavericks - has given Dallas the same type of production he provided Houston with during his three-year run with the team. His strong play with the Rockets landed him a lucrative three-year, $46-million deal this offseason.

The small forward is averaging 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and shooting 46.1 percent from the field in 32.9 minutes per game. Parsons, a Florida native, should be considered questionable for Saturday's game in his home state against the Orlando Magic.
