Kemba Walker undergoes knee surgery, out at least 6 weeks

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Kemba Walker underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the lateral meniscus in his left knee, the Charlotte Hornets announced.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, that announcement also came with the confirmation that Walker's recovery will take a minimum of six weeks.

Walker, who signed a four-year, $48 million extension in the summer, is averaging 18.8 points, 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals for a Hornets team that currently sits eighth-place in the Eastern Conference.

Walker's play helped the Hornets dig themselves out of an early hole, as Charlotte has won nine of 11 after a 10-24 start to the season.

Walker missed three of the last five games due to knee soreness that was thought to be the result of a cyst, but turned out to be a meniscus tear.

With Jannero Pargo still sidelined by a back issue, Brian Roberts is now the only healthy point guard on the roster, although Gary Neal and Lance Stephenson could both fill spot minutes at the point.

Barring an ahead-of-schedule return from Walker or an unlikely resurgence from Stephenson, the Hornets will likely need to find a reinforcement or two at point guard to stay in the East playoff hunt.
