Davis leads Pelicans to win over Mavericks

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Anthony Davis reached into his bag of tricks Sunday night.

Davis sealed a 109-106 New Orleans Pelicans win over the Dallas Mavericks by picking off a Rajon Rondo in-bounds pass – his season-high fifth steal in a game – before hitting two foul shots that gave New Orleans its third straight win.

Davis finished with a line of 28 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, three assists and a block. He also hit the go-ahead free throws prior to the steal when he drew a foul from veteran Tyson Chandler.

With the victory, the Pelicans improved their record at home this season to 14-5. The problem is, they are 9-16 away from the Smoothie King Center.

Monta Ellis led the way for Dallas with a game-high 36 points, while Dirk Nowitzki had 24 points and six rebounds. Chandler temporarily left the game in the second half after a knee-on-knee collision with Davis. X-rays were negative.
