Report: Blazers' Aldridge needs another MRI, thumb is in cast

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Portland Trail Blazers fans will have to remain on pins and needles for now, as LaMarcus Aldridge is set to undergo another MRI on his injured left hand Thursday.

The first MRI Aldridge underwent was inconclusive because of swelling around his thumb, according to the Sporting News' Sean Deveney, and the Blazers All-Star is reportedly wearing a thumb cast.

Aldridge suffered the injury during Monday's win over the Sacramento Kings and was sidelined for Wednesday's loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Portland has a comfortable playoff cushion thanks to their great start and Oklahoma City's early injury woes, as the Blazers lead the Thunder by 8.5 games in the Northwest Division. But losing Aldridge for a significant length of time would still be a crushing blow in the unforgiving Western Conference.

The Blazers, who also remain without starting center Robin Lopez, perform 4.5 points per-100 possessions better with Aldridge on the court, according to NBA.com.

Aldridge is averaging 23.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 blocks in 38 games for the 31-12 Blazers.
