Thunder's Durant suffered minor elbow injury Tuesday: 'It's just a little stinger'

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant's right elbow is fine. He said so himself.

Durant hurt his elbow when he landed awkwardly after a drive to the basket Tuesday night against the Miami Heat, but the injury won't be enough to keep him out of the Oklahoma City Thunder's game on Wednesday night in Washington - his hometown - against the Wizards

"I've fallen plenty of times," Durant said after Tuesday's win, in which he flirted with a triple-double, scoring 19 points and adding eight rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. "It's just a little stinger. I just fell on my arm. I'll be fine."

OKC's victory put the club above .500 at 21-20, the first time all year they've been a winning team. The Thunder have won three in a row and four of five, but still trail the Phoenix Suns by three games for eighth in the Western Conference.

Thunder head coach Scott Brooks thought Durant was fouled on the play in question, and kept the reigning MVP in the game until there was 1:19 to play in the fourth quarter, with OKC up by 10.

Brooks said:

I wasn't nervous. Kevin is as tough as anybody in this league. He's been hit hard going to the basket many times. He's always bouncing up. He went down the court, kept his composure and kept playing.

OKC's 13-5 with Durant in the lineup, and are currently on a five-game road trip. They won the first two games against Orlando and Miami but have their work cut out for them, as they face the Wizards on Wednesday, the East-leading Hawks in Atlanta on Friday, and the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Sunday.

Durant's averaging 25 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
