Shumpert could make Cavaliers debut by this weekend

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers may have shooting guard Iman Shumpert in the lineup by the end of their current four-game homestand, according to Joe Vardon of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

It remains possible he may play sooner, as ESPN's Brian Windhorst noted Monday that he participated in shootaround.

Shumpert was acquired by the Cavs along with J.R. Smith in a three-way trade on Jan. 5, but is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder he suffered in December while playing with the New York Knicks.

Shumpert, an excellent perimeter defender, could be an X-factor for the Cavs as they attempt to climb the Eastern Conference standings. He averaged 9.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 24 games with the Knicks this season.

The Cavs host the Charlotte Hornets on Friday and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. If Shumpert returns against Oklahoma City, he'll face off against Dion Waiters, who Cleveland dealt away in the three-team deal.
