Kings' Gay plays after attending uncle's funeral

Rudy Gay's knee was never a problem. His real injury was a broken heart.

Gay played Saturday for the Sacramento Kings despite having attended his uncle's funeral in Connecticut earlier in the day, according to James Ham of Cowbell Kingdom.

Gay flew back to Sacramento and entered the first quarter off the bench against the Los Angeles Clippers.

He was initially listed as questionable prior to tip-off and wasn't on the bench when the game began. It was thought Gay was still suffering from a sprained left knee capsule he incurred Tuesday after he missed a game Friday.

Gay finished with 22 points and five rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
