Hornets top Pacers in historically bad overtime game

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Sometimes you get a clunker in the NBA. But the gong show the Indiana Pacers and Charlotte Hornets put on Saturday night was almost breathtaking.

Charlotte won 80-71 in overtime on the meaty shoulders of 30.7 percent shooting. This included 2-of-15 from beyond the arc, an act of impotence outdone only by the Pacers' pathetic 9.5 percent (2-for-21) shooting from three.

For a little perspective, Kyle Korver of the Atlanta Hawks made almost twice as many treys Saturday against the Bulls (7) than the Hornets and Pacers combined (4).

For the Pacers, it was a historically bad overtime output.

Indiana scored 11 points in the third quarter and only three in overtime.

Lance Stephenson, playing against his old team - and fitting storylines like this like a glove - logged 20 minutes, his most floor time since Dec. 17. His 13 points were second on the Hornets to Gerald Henderson's game-high 20, and he even provided some sideshow work.

The Pacers have lost four in a row and five of seven, while Charlotte has now won six of its last seven. The Hornets were without Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson.
