Wizards' Pierce on Nets: 'Any team that doesn't have Paul Pierce misses him'

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

With Paul Pierce and the Washington Wizards set for a weekend home-and-home against the Brooklyn Nets – the first time Pierce has faced the Nets since leaving the team in free agency – the future Hall of Famer was asked if the struggling Nets miss him.

His answer was as honest as you'd expect from a man dubbed The Truth.

While Pierce has averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists as a steady, veteran presence for the 27-12 Wizards, the Nets have stumbled to a 16-23 record and are clinging to the Eastern Conference's eighth seed after seven straight losses.

Given that the Nets are already drowning in luxury tax payments and own the NBA's highest payroll without sniffing contention, the decision to let Pierce walk was the right one. But that doesn't mean they don't miss him.
