Warriors to rest Bogut, Iguodala Friday vs. Thunder

Geoff Burke / USA Today Sports

Perhaps emboldened by their 26-point stomping of the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this month, the Golden State Warriors will rest both Andrew Bogut and Andre Iguodala when the teams meet again on Friday, according to head coach Steve Kerr.

Kerr cited the fact that the Warriors are in the midst of a four-games-in-five-nights stretch, and will have to travel to Houston to play the Rockets for the tail end of a back-to-back on Saturday.

Bogut has played in four games since returning from a 12-game absence due to a persistent right knee injury, with the Warriors winning all four. They're a ridiculous 22-2 this season when Bogut plays.

Iguodala, despite scuffling through the worst offensive season of his career, remains one of the Warriors best wing defenders. His absence will put some added pressure on Klay Thompson, who's likely to draw the Kevin Durant assignment for the bulk of the game.

Kerr said Marreese Speights will start in place of Bogut, a super-small look that has yielded pretty remarkable offensive results, but leaves them a bit more vulnerable defensively, placing a pretty sizable burden on Draymond Green's shoulders.

Shaun Livingston is also expected to see a big minutes bump, and should see a lot of time on Russell Westbrook.

Whether all this adds up to a defeat isn't of particular concern to Kerr, who said he'll continue to rest guys in four-in-five-night sets. At 31-5, the Warriors have a chance to be historically great, but their coach doesn't want them to lose sight of their big-picture goals.

"We're not chasing the '96 Bulls here," Kerr said. Kerr played all 82 games for the '96 Bulls, who went 72-10.
