Eric Gordon: (Shoulder) Could Play Monday

Gordon (shoulder) will be evaluated after Monday's morning shootaround to determine whether or not he'll be available later in the day against the Wizards, The Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

Gordon has been sidelined since Nov. 22 with a torn labrum. The oft-injured guard will likely be eased back into action when he eventually returns to the court, although coach Monty Williams hinted that he might start Gordon if the morning shootaround goes well. Williams noted that Gordon's conditioning was better than expected at this stage, though the team didn't do much scrimmaging Sunday. "I don't want to say yay or nay (if Gordon would play vs. Wizards), but it looks like it," Williams said. "But I don't want to say for sure yet." If he does ultimately play and start Monday it would be somewhat surprising if he plays the 31 minutes that he's averaged over 12 games this season, considering he just started fully practicing Sunday. That said, the Pelicans don't expect to have Gordon on a strict minutes limit, but that's subject to change based upon how his shoulder responds. "I don't to jump the gun because you never know how a guy is going to respond," Williams said. "This is his first contact practice. Come 10 o'clock tomorrow, I'll have a better idea of what he feels like and how we can move forward. But just based on what he did today in practice, he looked pretty good. I know he is anxious to get back on the floor. That's why he has been working his tail off for the past six weeks."
