Smith compares Knicks' poor defense to video game robbery

Steve Mitchell / USA Today

The New York Knicks' defense is so bad, even much-maligned defender J.R. Smith is speaking out.

The Knicks currently hold claim to the league's third-worst defense, posting a defensive rating of 108.9. They allow opponents to shoot a league-leading 39.7 percent from deep and grab the lowest percentage of available defensive rebounds at just 71.6 percent. In so many words, the Knicks are really bad in just about every aspect of defense.

New York's blatant disregard of defense left Smith to draw a convoluted analogy between theft and pride.

"If you don’t get offended by somebody scoring on you then I don’t know what to tell you. That is like somebody breaking into your house and just taking your video game out of your hand and you just let it happen," Smith told Fred Kerber of the New York Post. "I know if you do that to me, it ain’t going to happen. I love my Xbox."

Ironically, Smith ranks as one of the Knicks' weaker defenders. This season, the Knicks are allowing 110.3 points per 100 possessions with Smith on the floor, compared to 108.9 without.
