Ed Davis to play through broken nose Friday, will need mask

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

There's good news and bad news for Los Angeles Lakers lefty Ed Davis.

The good news is that he'll be able to play through the broken nose he suffered on Tuesday when Nate Robinson fouled him hard late. The bad news is that, much as he wanted to avoid doing so, Davis will have to wear a protective mask when he takes the floor Friday.

Davis should probably consider himself lucky to not be missing time.

The Lakers are surely thankful, as Davis has been one of their best players so far this year. Though his averages of 7.8 points and 7.1 rebounds are modest, Davis is shooting 63 percent from the floor and the team has been better in his 23.7 minutes than they have been without him.

Now, if only someone would alert Kobe Bryant to Davis's existence and performance:

Davis with Bryant without Bryant
Pts/36 9.8 14.8
FGA/36 7.0 9.0
FG% 60.0% 66.7%
Rbs/36 9.9 12.3
