Prigioni on Knicks' struggles: 'Maybe we don't have enough talent to win'

Finally, someone with the New York Knicks is being honest.

Guard Pablo Prigioni isn't blaming chemistry, he's not blaming mentality and he's not blaming expiring contracts or anything else for the team's 5-25 start to the season. He has a far, far simpler - and more elegant - explanation for the team's struggles.

"Maybe we don't have enough talent to win," Prigioni said Sunday, as reported by Al Iannazzone of Newsday. "I don't have the right answer or the explanation to know why we are in this situation. I'm a positive guy and I always think the next game is going to be better than the last game. And 30 games into the season and we are in a very bad position."

That sound you hear is the bell signalling a correct answer.

The Knicks have a lot of issues, but the biggest one is that they're just not a very good team. They have an offensive superstar in Carmelo Anthony and a handful of useful rotation pieces, but nobody a team would be comfortable calling a number two option and nobody who grades out as a consistent defensive stopper.

The result is the league's No. 22 offense and No. 27 defense, and an eight-game gap between themselves and an Eastern Conference playoff spot. If Prigioni's evaluation is accurate - and make no mistake, it is - little will change the franchise's fortunes in the short-term.

At least they own their own draft pick for a change.
