Report: Hornets hanging on to Stephenson 'for now'

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Given that the market for Lance Stephenson appears to be pretty cool at the moment, the Charlotte Hornets have reportedly decided to hang onto the enigmatic shooting guard for the time being.

According to ESPN's Chris Broussard and Ramona Shelburne, up to seven teams - including the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets - have expressed interest in Stephenson, but not all those teams made offers and none of the ones that did have intrigued Charlotte enough.

The Hornets inked Stephenson to a three-year, $24.7-million deal amid some fanfare last summer, but according to the ESPN report the team believes that the Brooklyn product has been fighting a groin injury all season. He is now listed as out of Friday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a pelvic strain he suffered Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns.
