Report: Celtics to release Faverani to make room after Rondo trade

The Boston Celtics will reportedly release center Vitor Faverani in order to open up the necessary roster spot to accommodate their blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks, according to Yahoo Sports's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Faverani, who averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in his rookie season last year, has been sidelined since undergoing preseason surgery on his left knee. He was not expected back for at least another month.

The 26-year-old Brazilian is a solid interior defender and rebounder, but he isn't much of a factor on the offensive end. He showed some flashes of floor-stretching ability last season, knocking down 30 percent of his three-point attempts in 37 games, which isn't bad for a 6-foot-11 center.
