Grizzlies top Spurs in 3OT thriller

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies have had an exhausting - but winning - week.

Memphis outlasted the San Antonio Spurs 117-116 in triple overtime Wednesday, despite blowing a 23-point second quarter lead.

The Grizzlies previously ended the Golden State Warriors' 16-game winning streak Tuesday. Two days earlier, they were taken to overtime by the league-worst Philadelphia 76ers.

Memphis forced the first overtime Wednesday - their third OT game in six days - when Marc Gasol hit up a prayer, buzzer-beating three. On the previous play, the absence of Tony Allen - sitting with an eye injury - was obvious for the Grizz when Danny Green was left wide open for the go-ahead three.

Green was unconscious from beyond the arc for the Spurs, going 7-of-13, getting 21 of his 25 points from three.

With 2.6 seconds left in the second overtime, the Spurs' Tim Duncan hit a jumper that bounced three times on the glass and rim before going in to force a third overtime. Duncan, who finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks, played his longest game since 2008. But he suffered at the free-throw line, shooting just 5-for-15.

Zach Randolph went for 21 points and 21 rebounds, including scoring all six of the Grizzlies' points in the third OT. Gasol finished with 26 points and nine boards on 10-of-16 shooting. At 21-4, Memphis is now only a half-game behind Golden State for the NBA's best record.
