Timberwolves' Williams expected to return Tuesday vs. Wizards

Jesse Johnson / USA TODAY Sports

Mo Williams is expected to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards after missing six games with back spasms.

Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders is hoping for 10-12 minutes out of Williams, meaning rookie Zach LaVine will continue to start at point guard for Minnesota.

LaVine has gotten major run with Williams out and Ricky Rubio sidelined with an ankle injury. The 19-year-old averaged 37.5 minutes over his last six contests, scoring 13.2 points, 5.7 assists and four rebounds.

Williams, meanwhile, was playing his best basketball of the season before experiencing back problems that kept him out for the last two weeks. The veteran averaged 15.3 points and 9.3 assists while shooting 44.1 percent from long range in seven consecutive starts.
