Dallas Mavericks (17-8) at New York Knicks (5-21), 8 p.m. (ET)

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks were held under 100 points the last time out and look to get the scoring going again Tuesday in a road matchup against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Mavericks dropped a 105-98 decision to the red-hot Golden State Warriors on Saturday and trailed 39-18 after one quarter. Dallas played tough over the next three quarters and even outscored the Warriors, 30-18, in the final period.

However, the first 12 minutes were too much to overcome for Dallas, which shot 40.4 percent and made only 5-of-25 3-pointers. The Mavericks trailed by as many as 28 points and never led at any point. Monta Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, and Richard Jefferson stepped up with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

"I love Jefferson, I love the way he plays," said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle. "He plays with a lot of force."

The Mavericks had scored 100 or more points in 10 straight games and are first with 110.0 ppg this season.

Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons missed the last game with lower back soreness and Jefferson took his place. Parsons is questionable Tuesday and posting an average of 16.3 points per game this season, his first with the Mavs.

Nowitzki became the sixth player in NBA history with 800 career games with at least 20 points, joining Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal.

The Mavericks are 8-4 on the road and will visit Detroit on Wednesday. They have alternated results over the last five games after winning five straight.

New York ended a 10-game losing streak with Friday's win in Boston, but fell back into the loss column with a 95-90 overtime defeat at the hands of the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

The visiting Raptors scored nine of the 13 points in the extra period and survived a 34-point outburst from Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. Anthony also had nine rebounds and Tim Hardaway Jr. ended with 18 points.

The Knicks shot 37.2 percent and fell to a disappointing 5-21 this season.

"(The loss) is more on what we didn't do, rather than what they did," Anthony said of the Eastern Conference-leading Raptors.

New York has lost five in a row at home and is 3-10 at MSG.

Anthony (20,494) is four points shy of passing Mitch Richmond (20,497) for 37th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Richmond was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for 2014.

The Knicks will visit Chicago next on Thursday. In injury news, guards J.R. Smith (foot) and Pablo Prigioni (ankle) are questionable Tuesday. Guard Iman Shumpert (shoulder) is already sidelined.

Dallas defeated New York, 109-102, in overtime on Nov. 26 in Big D, as former Knick Tyson Chandler recorded 17 points and 25 rebounds. Nowitzki poured in 30 points in that one and Anthony did not play because of back spasms.

The Mavs are 21-5 in the last 26 meetings with the Knicks and 9-3 in the previous 12 matchups at the Garden.
