Warriors have reached out to Ray Allen, unclear on what he'll do

The thought of Steph Curry and Ray Allen sharing a backcourt is enough to give shooting enthusiasts goosebumps.

It's also a hypothetical that the Golden State Warriors have explored making a reality. General manager Bob Myers said Thursday that the team has reached out to Allen, but that it's uncertain what Allen will ultimately do.

The 39-year-old Allen is said to be staying in good shape in Miami and waiting for the NBA season to unfold a little further before deciding whether he'll play a 19th season. At that point, he'd have his pick between any number of contenders who have expressed interest, offering elite shooting and veteran leadership at the two.

The idea of Allen, the league's all-time leader in 3-point field goals, playing with Curry, who will almost certainly pass that mark some day, is almost too beautiful to comprehend. They own two of the purest strokes in basketball and would somehow make the 19-2 Warriors juggernaut even more dangerous.

Last season with the Miami Heat, Allen was still averaging 26.5 minutes and playing effectively, averaging 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists while hitting 37.5 percent from long range. Given his reputation for always staying in top shape, he stands as one of the biggest potential additions a team could make around the February trade deadline.
