Mavericks get Nelson back Tuesday, still without Felton

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks' offense has been so effective this season that 1-of-2 probably doesn't even sound that good to the team anymore.

That's the injury update on the Mavericks' sidelined point guards, as the team is set to welcome Jameer Nelson back to the lineup Tuesday while Raymond Felton remains out.

Nelson has missed the team's last three games due to back spasms, while Felton is yet to play this year due to multiple ankle sprains with a suspension sandwiched between.

The Mavericks didn't stumble without their guards, though, winning all three games Nelson sat thanks to stellar play from Devin Harris and J.J. Barea.

Still, Nelson is the team's starter and has been solid if unspectacular so far, averaging 7.6 points and 4.6 assists in a system that doesn't ask him to score much. He's shooting just 35.9 percent overall, but his 36.5 percent mark from long range is far more important for Dallas, especially since Nelson takes nearly two-thirds of his shots from outside.

"We missed manpower," head coach Rick Carlisle said of Nelson's absence. "We missed another playmaker."

The 13-5 Mavericks are in tough Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls, though it didn't sound as if Carlisle would continue to start Harris to gain a defensive edge against Derrick Rose.
