Hardwood Highlight of the Night: Lowry, Patterson work pick-and-pop to perfection

The Toronto Raptors managed to score just 13 fourth-quarter points en route to a 105-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. A big problem on the offensive end in the final frame was a lack of ball movement and spacing, and a lot of isolation after Kyle Lowry and other ball handlers found themselves trapped coming off screens.

One fourth quarter possession that saw the Raptors utilize a nice pick-and-pop with some solid spacing, however, involved Lowry and Patrick Patterson giving the team a 99-97 lead with less than four minutes remaining.

First, Patterson comes up to set a screen for Lowry on Matthew Dellavedova, bringing Kevin Love with him.

Lowry then uses the screen to drive into the heart of the Cavaliers defense, and both Dellavedova and Love chase him into the paint, while Patterson remains on the perimeter.

Regardless if this was by design or involved some miscommunication on whether to switch between the two Cavs defenders, Patterson ends up with a ton of open space and becomes an easy target for Lowry to find.

Lowry and Patterson also had Terrence Ross - a good 3-point shooter - open in the left corner if they wanted to add an extra pass (although Ross has gone 2-of-12 from deep over the last two games).

Landry Fields had a strong game for Toronto in a surprising starting assignment, but he's not much of a factor as a shooter in the right corner, as LeBron James' lack of focus on him demonstrates. Still, the spacing for the Raptors here is good.

Patterson - who has been hot from beyond the arc for the Raptors - probably could have gotten a 3-pointer off, but credit Dellavedova for recovering somewhat and running Patterson off the line.

The result is one of Lowry's 14 assists on the night, two of Patterson's 12 points, and the Raptors' last lead of the game.
