Hornets' Marvin Williams will not play Friday or Saturday due to shoulder strain

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Charlotte Hornets' banged-up frontcourt will be even thinner this weekend, as power forward Marvin Williams has been ruled out for both Friday and Saturday's games with a shoulder strain.

The Hornets were already playing without starting small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who's out indefinitely with a foot injury.

Williams, who the Hornets signed to a two-year deal as a free agent this offseason, suffered the injury in Wednesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, and had to leave after just 11 minutes of action. He's gotten off to a rocky start in Charlotte, averaging a career-low 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Cody Zeller, who's been one of the few bright spots in the Hornets' dismal 4-12 start, will get the nod in Williams' place.
