Knicks' Anthony was close to joining Bulls, new doc shows

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Carmelo Anthony was almost a Chicago Bull.

"There was one point in time I was like, 'Oh, I'm going,' " Anthony says about Chicago in a new documentary offering a candid look inside the NBA star's free-agent tour this past July, when he apparently came close to leaving the New York Knicks.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Anthony rejected the idea of joining the Houston Rockets early on in the process, citing the "culture change" of living in Texas, but was impressed by the Bulls' team and commitment to winning, even though a sign-and-trade would have been needed to facilitate a max contract.

“It was a perfect setup and perfect fit for me in Chicago," Anthony is quoted as saying in the documentary. "But also I had to think about just living in Chicago. Do I want to live in Chicago? Do I want to take everything I created in New York and move all of that?

"It came down to that."

"Carmelo Anthony: Made in NY" aired Tuesday on MSG Network.
