Dr. Chris Andersen has quite the update on his sprained ankle

Being injured is boring. As a result, Miami Heat center Chris Andersen is spicing up his recovery by providing his own detailed updates for the media.

Andersen has been sidelined since Sunday due to a high right ankle sprain, missing just one game but with little in the way of a timetable for his return. Birdman remedied that Wednesday, filling reporters in on the status of his ankle, as relayed by Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel:

Well, I practice in the medical field in my spare time, and it's not serious enough that I have to have surgery or require surgery. But the swelling is in the lower containing area and the upper dorsimus area of the foot and the deltoid got a little stretched out a little bit.

Before you joke about a deltoid being in your shoulder, the ankle actually has a deltoid ligament as well, so don't assume Andersen is just talking crazy. He's probably talking crazy, but maybe not.

Andersen later agreed with the timeline put forth by other medical professionals - that he's expected to be out two-to-three weeks - after studying the MRI and X-ray results.

In nine games this season, the 36-year-old Andersen is averaging 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.8 minutes, shooting just 42.9 percent from the floor. The Heat have also been slightly better with him off the floor, though it may be unfair to judge whether he's slowing down so early in the season.
