Pistons' Jennings out with thumb injury again Wednesday

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Pistons' struggling offense will once again be without one of their only players playing well on Wednesday.

Brandon Jennings will miss his second consecutive game due to  a hyperextended left thumb, leaving the team thin on point guards and capable offensive creators. The Pistons mustered just 86 points without Jennings on Tuesday, the fourth time in five games they've failed to crack 90 points.

At 3-11, things need to change quickly for Detroit, and Jennings' absence obviously doesn't make that any easier. In 13 games, Jennings is averaging 16 points and 5.8 assists with an effective 21.9 player efficiency rating. While the team hasn't been good with or without him, the team's offense has scored 11.9 more points per-100 possessions with Jennings on the floor than without him.

D.J. Augustin drew the start in Jennings' place on Tuesday, scoring 11 points with seven assists. It also opened up an opportunity for rookie Spencer Dinwiddie, who scored three points with three assists in 11 minutes.
