Nets' Hollins on Lopez: 'He needs to be better defensively, rebounding, passing'

Lionel Hollins doesn't seem to be growing any fonder of Brook Lopez's game.

The Brooklyn Nets head coach hasn't been shy about criticizing Lopez and limiting his starting center's fourth quarter minutes, and Monday was no different.

“He’s the same Brook. He can score,’’ Hollins said Monday, as reported by the New York Post's Brian Lewis. "He needs to be better defensively, he needs to be better rebounding, he needs to be better passing the ball to his teammates.’’

Hollins did praise Lopez's passing in Monday's practice, however.

“There’s people that come into this league and their whole life they’re only asked to do one thing," Hollins added. "And when you get to this level it takes a little more to win. I’m trying to ask him to do those things.’’

Lopez, who has always been a poor rebounder for his size and an underwhelming defensive player, is averaging 5.4 boards to go with 15.3 points per game so far this season.

As for Lopez, he doesn't seem to have a concrete plan of how to start earning crunch time minutes.

"I don’t know. He’s going with the looks he wants," Lopez said of Hollins. "He’s the coach and that’s how he controls it."
