Timberwolves' Kevin Martin undergoes wrist surgery, out 6-8 weeks

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Credit Kevin Martin for somehow playing through a wrist injury that will now sideline him for over a month.

Martin fractured his right wrist in the first quarter on Wednesday against the New York Knicks, ultimately playing 35 minutes in the game and scoring 37 points. Unfortunately, it's not something he'll be able to continue playing through.

The Western Carolina product underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the fracture and is expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks. The team chose surgery as a course of treatment rather than a cast with the hope that Martin can be back within six weeks, according to a report from the Star Tribune.

In 2009, Martin broke his left wrist and opted for surgery, missing more than two months.

In nine games this season, Martin is averaging 20.4 points on 48.3 percent shooting with a 48.1 percent mark from long range. A potential trade candidate later in the year, Martin has had his minutes spread around a number of young players in the first two games he's missed.
