Rockets' Beverley says re-aggravated hamstring won't sideline him

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Coming off a shorthanded statement win against the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley doesn't want to let the momentum subside.

The tenacious defender tweaked his left hamstring during the win on Saturday, a troublesome flare-up for an injury that kept him out of six games earlier in the season. But Beverley was adamant that he had no intention of missing any time, telling reporters following the game that he'd play Monday against the New York Knicks.

Beverley played 31 minutes on Saturday, scoring a season-high 20 points thanks to a 6-of-11 night from long range. In seven games, he's averaging 12.6 points and shooting 46.9 percent from the floor, both career bests. But his primary value comes on defense, and the Rockets have been 5.2 points per-100 possessions better overall with the third-year Arkansas product on the floor.

Should Beverley miss any time, Isaiah Canaan would likely draw back in as the starting point guard. Canaan started the six games Beverley missed and performed well, averaging 8.2 points in 11 outings and hitting 40.9 percent of his threes.
