Kevin Durant inks endorsement deal with Sonic that has nothing to do with Seattle

Kevin Durant, still recovering from a foot fracture, is weeks away from stepping back onto the court. But that's not stopping him from taking care of his business interests off of it.

According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, Durant has signed on with fast-food drive-in chain Sonic, becoming its first athlete ambassador. Durant, who signed a record 10-year, $300-million deal with Nike this past offseason, reportedly has more endorsements than any other NBA player.

"Everything that Kevin pitches comes from an authentic point of view," said Michael Yormark, president and chief of branding and strategy for Roc Nation, the agency group to which Durant belongs. "When it comes to grab-and-go food, KD's a Sonic guy."

Doubtless, fans in Seattle haven't forgotten Durant was once a Sonic guy, indeed. He was drafted by and played his rookie season for the Seattle SuperSonics before the team was packed off to Oklahoma City by principal owner Clay Bennett.

Ironically enough, the Sonic chain is headquartered in Oklahoma City, making Durant the brand's perfect local spokesperson.

"We feel really good about this partnership because Kevin is uniquely aligned with what we do and who we are as a brand," said Todd Smith, Sonic's chief marketing officer.

As part of his deal, Durant will reportedly be responsible for coming up with his own dishes for Sonic, which recently opened a test kitchen.
