New York Knicks (3-9) at Minnesota Timberwolves (2-7), 8 p.m. (ET)

(SportsNetwork.com) - After recently halting a seven-game slide, the New York Knicks fell back into the loss column, but will try to get out of it Wednesday night when they visit the Target Center to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Knicks stopped the skid with a 16-point home victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, but started a new losing streak with a 117-113 setback Tuesday night in Milwaukee against the Bucks.

Carmelo Anthony scored 26 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. had 24 to pace New York, while Iman Shumpert donated 21 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

The two teams played to a 30-30 tie after one quarter, but Milwaukee built a 17-point lead after dominating the second. The Bucks shot 15-for-23 in the period and 4-for-6 from behind the arc while controlling the glass, winning the rebounding margin 15-4.

It was 66-49 at halftime and the Bucks led by 22 at the start of the final quarter.

The margin was 12 late when Hardaway's layup sparked an 8-0 run to get New York within four. It shrunk to three after J.R. Smith's triple with 30.9 seconds left and two on Anthony's uncontested dunk at 12.9.

The Bucks made some free throws and secured the victory.

"We didn't take another step forward, we just kind of stayed the same," Knicks head coach Derek Fisher said. "We have to find a way to take advantage of opportunities to get better every time we're out there."

The Knicks conclude this short road trip on Wednesday, then host the lowly Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. After that, it's a three-game road trip through the south.

The Wolves will be down three starters for this matchup on Wednesday.

Point guard Ricky Rubio is still shelved by an ankle issue, center Nikola Pekovic joined him on the sidelines with a foot ailment and a wrist injury and Thaddeus Young is still away from the team following the death of his mother.

"We'll be a little undermanned," head coach Flip Saunders said after practice on Tuesday. "It's an opportunity for some players to get opportunities, a good chance to evaluate."

The Timberwolves have dropped five in a row, including four on the road. Technically, all five were away from home as the other loss came in Mexico City, but the Wolves were designated the home team.

Minny hasn't played at Target Center since a Nov. 1 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

The Wolves have allowed an average of 135 points in their last two defeats, including a 48-point loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, and a 14- point setback in Dallas on Saturday.

Minnesota will play four straight at home, starting Wednesday. The Timberwolves will welcome the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks on this stay.

The teams split two meetings last season, but the Knicks have won three straight in Minnesota.
