Report: Pacers working to sign Price after deal with Mekel falls through

David Richard / US PRESSWIRE

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly working to sign guard A.J. Price, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

After the Pacers appeared set to add former Dallas Mavericks guard Gal Mekel, Stein reported Thursday that procedural issues could prevent Mekel from securing his visa until Friday. The hardship waiver granted to the Pacers by the league expires Thursday, however.

Price has averaged 5.9 points, 2.2 assists and 1.5 rebounds over five seasons with the Pacers, Washington Wizards and Minnesota Timberwolves. The 28-year-old guard, who the Pacers selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA draft, was recently released by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In addition to missing forwards Paul George and David West, the Pacers are also currently without guards George Hill, Rodney Stuckey and C.J. Watson.

C.J. Miles and Donald Sloan are currently the only healthy guards on the roster.
