Lakers' Randle undergoes season-ending leg surgery

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Julius Randle's season is over after it barely even began.

The Los Angeles Lakers rookie will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken leg, according to the Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan.

Randle, who was selected seventh overall out of Kentucky in June's NBA draft, sustained the injury in the Lakers' season-opening loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.

It's the second season-ending blow in less than a week for a Lakers team that also lost Steve Nash for the year due to ongoing back issues.

With the Lakers expected to languish near the bottom of the Western Conference all season, Randle's development was supposed to be one of the few bright spots for the storied franchise.
