Iguodala is expected to come off the bench when the regular season tips off Wednesday night against the Kings, but he may not be a reserve all season long, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Head coach Steve Kerr is leaning toward Iguodala being an offensive initiator on the second unit while Shaun Livingston recovers from offseason toe surgery.

Analysis:

Iguodala on the second unit is certainly an oddity, given that he's been a starter in all 806 games played in 10 NBA seasons, but Kerr's preseason experiment worked out quite well as Iguodala dished out 19 assists to zero turnovers in four games off the bench. At some point, Livingston will be available and Kerr will decide on whether Iguodala should remain on the second unit. Also a factor is wanting to limit Iguodala to an effective dose of minutes over the long haul instead of grinding him 35 minutes a night and exposing him to the kinds of recurring knee and hamstring issues he dealt with all last season.
