Pacers' West to miss at least 3 games with sprained ankle

Frank Victores / USA Today Sports

The news in Indiana has gone from bad to worse.

The Pacers lost Paul George to a gruesome leg injury during the summer and lost Lance Stephenson to free agency. Now they'll be without David West, George Hill and C.J. Watson to start the season.

The team announced on Monday that West will miss at least the first three games of the regular season due to a sprained right ankle. West suffered the injury in a preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 19 and was held out for the remainder of the preseason.

Indiana's first three games come against the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks.

West averaged 14.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 80 games last season. The 34-year-old has missed just 11 games over the last three seasons combined.
