Future Hall of Famers Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash played together for six years as teammates on the Dallas Mavericks, over which time they honed one of the league's most visible friendships.

On Sunday, Nowitzki gave his thoughts with respect to Nash's back injury, of which will bar him from playing in 2014-15, likely signalling the end of his illustrious career.

"I texted him actually that I was proud of him and I was proud to be his teammate," Nowitzki told Tim MacMahon of ESPN. "We had an unbelievable run.

"I told him that if you would have told me a 6-foot white guy from Canada was going to be back-to-back MVPs, I would have said you're absolutely nuts. He had an unbelievable ride."

Luckily, unlike Nash, Nowitzki is still going strong. However, it's sad to envision one without the other, as the two formed one of the most lethal pick-and-roll combinations of all-time.
