Shumpert is expected to start at shooting guard for the Knicks this season, ESPN New York reports.

Analysis:

Shumpert entered training camp entrenched in a three-way competition with J.R. Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. to start at shooting guard, but given Shumpert's lock-down perimeter defense, his skill set blends best with first-team point guard Jose Calderon. As a result, Shumpert is slated to start in New York's backcourt, although his versatility should allow him to spend time at small forward as well. In Shumpert doing so, both Smith and Hardaway Jr. are still expected to fulfill significant roles off the Knicks' bench this term.
