Report: Klay Thompson's camp frustrated with Warriors

As the deadline for fourth-year players to sign extensions with their current teams approaches, tension between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors is reportedly growing.

According to Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears, Thompson's camp is frustrated that the Warriors have yet to offer the shooting guard a maximum contract extension.

If Thompson and the Warriors don't reach an extension by the Oct. 31 deadline, the 24-year-old will become a restricted free agent in July.

Spears reports that while the Warriors have upped their offer to Thompson and are close to his maximum demands, team owner Joe Lacob is not comfortable offering Thompson a full max. The report also cites a source close to Thompson who said anything less than the max would be ridiculous.

Through three seasons, Thompson has averaged 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 41 percent three-point shooting while playing solid defense at the two-guard position.

He's also worked exceptionally well with fellow sharpshooting guard Stephen Curry in Golden State's backcourt.

Thomspon's numbers and league status - he's never made an All-Star team - make him a curious candidate for a maximum extension, but his camp has reason for their demands.

For one, the salary cap is expected to soar over the coming years in the wake of the NBA's new $24 billion media rights deal. More importantly, the Warriors deemed Thompson too valuable to give up in potential deals for Kevin Love.

On one hand, the Warriors value Thompson enough to not give him up for a surefire, max-caliber, top-10 player. On the other, they're not convinced he's a max-caliber player himself.
